Thank you for visiting the Town of High Prairie web-site. I hope that you are able to find out a bit more about our community.
First of all, High Prairie is a very busy place! Like most of Alberta, we have construction and development happening everywhere, and employment is relatively easy to find here. What you WON'T find in High Prairie, though, is air pollution, traffic congestion, and a feeling like you don’t belong. High Prairie is a welcoming and active community that still has that small community feel and where you can get to know your neighbours.
High Prairie is deceiving in it’s size, because even though technically we are a small community of less than 3,000 people, we have a significant development around our boundaries so we look, and operate, on a much larger scale. In fact, we have a close working relationship with our Municipal District of Big Lakes neighbours and that is seen throughout our community. Together, we operate several joint ventures.
As you tour our web-site, pardon us if sound like we are bragging: It is just our pride in our community. In 2006, we were Community-in-Bloom champions. In 2007, we were Winter-Lights winners. In 2007, we were selected Alberta’s most Senior Friendly Community by the Government of Canada. In 2007, one of our longest elm-tree-lined avenues was selected as a Provincial Heritage Site by Heritage of Trees Alberta. In 2005, we opened a beautiful, new indoor swimming pool. In 2007, we will be opening our new 2nd ice surface & gymnasium. In 2008, we will begin construction on a new hospital that will serve the 23,000 people in our region. So, yes, we ARE proud of High Prairie!
